INSPIRED BY FLOWERS

INSPIRED BY FLOWERS

One of our favourite things is to wake up early and walk to the flower market in Jaipur. It is an amazing experience and provides an absolute feast for the senses. The vibrant colours, the heady fragrances and the cacophony of excitable voices are utterly thrilling.

In India, people often start their day by offering flowers to their gods both at home and at the temple and this among other things makes flowers an important part of Indian culture and traditions. The significance of flowers to the way of life in Rajasthan is reflected in the way that many of our designs feature flowers. The lotus is a flower that is sacred in Indian tradition and has inspired the blue lotus fabric we have used in our pyjamas and hooded dressing gowns.

We sometimes see women wearing jasmine in their hair. This flower is known as the queen of flowers because of its breathtaking fragrance It is also called the God's own flower as no festival is deemed complete without using jasmine flowers.

Consequently, flowers are an integral part of the many hand block designs we feature and each one has its own story and place in Indian tradition. Wonderful!
